California Trip  -  July 6-15, 2012

The main purpose of this trip was to participate in the memorial service for my youngest sister, Patti Schott.  She died from cancer on June 5th, 2012.  One week after my last visit with her.  I had been going out every other month since November to spend time with her and the rest of my family in anticipation of this milestone in our family’s life.  We knew it was coming, dreading it, but not without hope as we knew that she fully trusted in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord.

When I first arrived in LA I felt so sick that my dad took me to the emergency room.  I spent 6 hours there and the prognosis was bronchitis.  Between the aches and pains, coughing, and fevers and chills, I felt pretty miserable.  I was supposed to spend some quality time with my other sister, Carol, but instead spent most of my time laying around trying to rest.  I was supposed to speak at Patti’s memorial service, but I was so sick I never had a clear enough mind to sit down and put my thoughts to paper.  So Monday, when I started feeling better, I sat on the back porch with my laptop and just started typing.  I still couldn't figure out what I wanted to say, but I knew I just had to start.  And then it flowed.  Below is what I wrote.  There is so much more I could have said but I had to keep my comments brief.
